Sericite, or fine-grained muscovite, is a flaky-structured, hydrated silicate mineral. It has a low potassium content and a high water content, as compared to muscovite. It can be applied in various fields.


1. Sericite in the field of coatings

Superfine sericite powder is a new type of functional filler that is widely used in the field of paints and coatings. Sericite powder is fine-flaked, smooth-faced, has a large aspect ratio, high whiteness, stable chemical properties, light weight, smooth texture, insulation, and radiation resistance. Therefore, it is a good color filler for various high-end paints, anti-rust, fireproof, and anti-corrosion coatings. Because of the layered structure of sericite, the dye particles can enter the interlayer of the crystal lattice of sericite, which can keep the paint film from fading for a long time.


Sericite has a similar chemical nature to traditional coating fillers such as talc powder, kaolin, and silica stone. After adding superfine sericite powder to anti-corrosion coatings, the surface hardness, toughness, adhesion, and impact resistance of the coating film are all improved. At the same time, it can replace or partially replace titanium dioxide in the coating formulation to reduce costs without affecting the performance of the coating.
